1.     What is a chiropractor?

A chiropractor is a license health care provider that emphasizes the body’s ability to heal itself. A chiropractor often treats problems related to the musculoskeletal system by using manual treatment methods combined with other therapies.

2.     What is the popping or snapping sound?

During a manual adjustment, a “pop” or “click” is sometimes made; this noise is actually gases moving in and out of the joint. The lack of a pop or click does not mean the adjustment has not happened.

3.     What techniques are used?

Our office utilizes several techniques for patients. The three primary techniques used are diversified, Thompson drop, and activator. Activator technique is a tool-based technique and excellent for patients who may not be able to receive manual therapies or for tender areas that may not respond to manual techniques comfortably.

4.     How can I benefit from chiropractic?

Chiropractic has many benefits in helping acute and chronic pain. The goal of chiropractic is to identify weaknesses and dysfunctions in the body and to restore the function that has been lost.

5.     What do chiropractors treat?

Chiropractors are known for treating back pain and neck pain, but we are also trained in treating extremity issues, tendinitis, migraines, headaches, and even different types of nerve issues.

6.     What results can I expect?

Everyone’s body is unique and reacts differently to treatment. Acute issues tend to respond quickly while a long-standing chronic issue can take more time to respond and resolve. Our goal at Granite State Chiropractic is to give you the best results that your body can achieve.

7.     Can I adjust myself?

“Self-adjusting” is a common term used to describe when a patient twists themselves in certain positions to create a “crack” in the spine. While this often feels good and releases tension, it rarely adjusts the actual problem area. The area that often releases with a self-adjustment is the unstable area that compensates for the true area of dysfunction. A chiropractor is trained to locate these areas and perform a specific adjustment.

8.     Do I need X-rays?

Our office currently does not offer on-site X-rays. If it is determined X-rays are required for care then we will refer out for a series.

9.     How often do I need adjustments?

At the beginning of a treatment plan, adjustments are often clustered closer together in order to address the areas of complaint. Consistent treatment allows the body to adjust to changes more easily. Once goals are met and you have reached your maximum improvement, it is up to you to determine your next level of care. Some patients will come in for routine maintenance and wellness adjustments as part of their overall self-care.

10.  What if I don’t notice improvements?

While most people do respond to chiropractic care, some cases will either respond very slowly or not at all. If a patient fails to respond appropriately or goals are not met, you will be referred to another level of care to help you meet your goals.
